On 20th August, our committee Co-Chairman, renowned Russian scholar and politician Sergei Baburin, laid flowers at Slobodan Milošević’s grave in Požarevac.
On this occasion, Baburin stated:
“Slobodan Milošević – on August 20, 2026, this great leader of Yugoslavia and Serbia would have turned 85.
I feel, at the very least, embarrassed by the attempts of modern Serbian politicians to forget this man’s name and avoid assessing his role in the history of modern Europe. I am convinced that over the years, recognition of Milošević’s great services to Serbs and Serbia, and to the entire Slavic world, will only grow. Milošević sacrificed everything for Serbia – his well-being and his life.
I have the utmost respect for President Slobodan Milošević. Eternal memory to him! May his controversial heirs do at least half as much for the Serbian people as he did!”
Slobodan’s granddaughter, Marija M. Milošević, met Baburin in Požarevac, where he arrived accompanied by members of the First Movement for Serbia leadership, led by Mario Kalik and Dušan Opačić.
Sergey Nikolaevich Baburin (born 1959) – Doctor of Law, University Professor, Vice Speaker of the State Duma of two convocations, Chief Researcher at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the International Slavic Academy, Co-Chairman of the International Committee “Slobodan Milošević,” recipient of numerous awards and titles, and a trusted friend of Serbia.
Mario Kalik made the following statement:
“President Milošević fought heroically for the defense of Serbia and the Serbian people, and the preservation of the achievements of a socially just society in the most difficult period of our modern history. In that fight, he sacrificed his life as a martyr, killed in an enemy dungeon like Gavrilo Princip a hundred years earlier. With his heroic death, Milošević joined the ranks of our most significant historical figures and greats, as a man whom Karađorđe, as the song sings, sent to the Serbian people.
His greatness and significance transcend the borders of our people and space, because on a global level, Milošević is the first fighter against Western imperialism and its so-called “New World Order” after the fall of the Berlin Wall, whose footsteps are now being followed by statesmen of the global East and South in order to create a better, freer and more just world. Therefore, it is not surprising that Western villains compare Putin to Milosevic, which only confirms Milosevic’s world-historical value and greatness. This fact further illustrates the significance of today’s date and the meaning of paying gratitude and respect to our great President.”
